As the lute has undergone a revival in the past 20 years, it became clear that one composer marked the pinnacle of the period's achievements. That composer, S.L. Weiss, was a contemporary and acquaintance of Bach and is becoming know as the most prolific artist of the instrument with an extremely rich output of some 600 pieces.

Robert Barto has chosen to almost exclusively dedicate his substantial music ability to the recording of Weiss for the Naxos label.

Mr. Barto maintains an extremely active schedule in recording, public performances, and master class lute and historical instruction.
